a creative career is surfing.

we sit on our board waiting for a wave.

we need to prepare in order to ride the wave when it comes.

we train. we hone our skills. we work on our craft. 

this work is to be done quietly, with no reward.

sometimes there are no waves, and we need to hunt for them.

and after all that.

it’s not certain that a great wave will come. 

but an unprepared surfer cannot ride the wave.
