2 Shows 1 Club
I kicked off my tour this weekend in Denver with 2 shows. Both were at Larimer Lounge. Friday and Saturday. It’s pretty rare for me to have back to back nights in the same city, it was a nice change. There’s something enjoyable about being able to unpack your suitcase in the hotel room, hang your shirts up, no worries about leaving early the next day.
Night 1 at Larimer Lounge was in the main room. It was packed and I really liked it. It felt like a dive bar with a great soundsystem and an LED screen. Sweaty, low ceilings, dark. It felt like a punk or metal venue. I talked to one of the employees and he said that’s exactly what it was before, the White Stripes among others had played there. Makes sense lol. Lots of history. I grew up playing in punk bands and I thrive in this type of room. You can tell everyone was there for the music. It’s such a great feeling when everyone is there in the same headspace. It was the perfect place to premiere the new show. An absolute joy to debut the new visuals that I have spent hours building myself and playing the music I love, the music I’ve made, and the music that inspires me.
Night 2 was supposed to be a sunset set on the patio, but there was a band playing outside at the venue next door so we pivoted and moved inside to the side room. Shit happens… but I think this ended up being better. That space was narrow, but with high ceilings, and I still played from sunset in the corner in front of the window. As the sun dipped the room edged into darkness, it had an air of boiler room, a different kind of intimate space. Loved this as well. The set was a lot more freeform. When I play these shows i always try to encourage the crowds to get as close to the booth as possible. Personal space is not an issue at these shows, I want people to feel it and then I feel it!
Kingston, Tuscaloosa are up next….
